In the world of kink, where sexual norms are there to be challenged, bent, and played with, SIG’s practice is that of submission: A place of play where he can let go of the performance that real life demands, for a more honest one. Through his unique perspective and lived experiences, he tells us the meaning of power and sexuality when seen from the topsy-turvy spectacles offered by kink.
11 years ago, F-Rating was created to help classify films which are written or directed by one or more female film-makers, or feature complex female characters who contribute significantly to the story. But what if ‘feminist’ is not a noun but an adjective? What if the feminist lens lends itself to all practices and not only film-making? Nirantar Radio brings to you the F-Rated Interviews where The Third Eye team speaks to different practitioners about their practice – but with a feminist lens.
The film referred to by Shabani in the introduction is Online and Available (Dirs. Samreen Farooqui and Shabani Hassanwalia, 2012) and it is freely accessible here.
The collective that SIG co-founded in 2011 is Kinky Collective, which is a non-funded group which seeks to raise awareness about kink in society as well as to strengthen the community in India. Their vision is for India to be a safer and sexier place for everyone without any judgement or marginalization.
